Father & son craftsmen

Timeless pieces built by hand.

We salvage logs, saw, dry, and craft custom furniture with stories worth sharing. Every project receives the same care we give our own pieces.

About us

Crafted & Rooted in Family Heritage

Orchard Woodworks — father and son who mill salvaged logs and transform them into furniture, slabs, and lumber with character. Based in Descanso, CA, we control the wood from raw log to finished piece using our Woodland Mills HM130 bandsaw mill.

We mill, dry, and finish every board in-house so the final piece keeps the spirit of the tree — and the family who found it.

Meet the Team

Locally Salvaged Wood

We source from salvaged logs and California-milled lumber, keeping material costs honest and giving each piece a traceable origin.

Mill to Finish

With our own bandsaw mill, we cut every slab ourselves — no middleman, full control over grain, thickness, and character.

Built to Spec

Every custom piece is designed around your space, your dimensions, and your finish preferences. No catalog, no compromise.

Made to Last

Solid hardwood construction with joinery and finishes chosen for decades of use — not just the photo on delivery day.

Built differently

One shop. Every step of the story.

By keeping the process close our hope is that this leads to better material choices, clearer communication, and a finished piece with lasting character.

01

Material-first design

Every design begins with grain, movement, and the natural qualities of the wood rather than forcing it into a template.

02

Direct collaboration

You work directly with the craftspeople selecting the material, refining the details, and building your commission.

03

Made for the long term

Solid joinery, repairable finishes, and practical care guidance help each piece age beautifully for years to come.

The Team

Two craftsmen, one shop.

Kris and Cal Saunders bring complementary skills to every build — from milling to design, joinery, and finishing.

Kris Saunders

Kris Saunders

Craftsman & Sawyer

Lifelong learner of woodworking. Kris's foundation was shaped by watching his dad build rather than buy — a philosophy that still drives every piece. Trained at the Northwest Woodworking Studio with master craftsman Gary Rogowski.
